Polished Concrete
Polished concrete is fast becoming a popular and economical choice for indoor flooring.
It is extra low maintenance and is an ideal flooring choice for allergy or asthma sufferers.
You can choose polished concrete versions of all CEMEX ColourPave™ styles with the exception of our limestone products.
Polished concrete is an ideal choice for large commercial or public buildings where high traffic flow might otherwise result in tired or soiled floor coverings.
Remember, polished concrete allows you to embed shapes, names or even corporate logos in bronze, aluminium or stainless steel which are then polished to a high gloss finish at the same time as your concrete is polished.
When designing your home or building specify to your architect, builder or engineer that you would like to use CEMEX polished concrete flooring. We suggest the use of SL 82 reinforcing mesh on ground floor slabs. In the 82 the 8 refers to the diameter of the steel, so 8mm, and the 2 to the size of the square, in this case 200mm.
Your grano worker will then place your slab in your choice of CEMEX ColourPave™, and apart from the colour and that the concrete should be mechanically vibrated is essentially no different to any other concrete building slab.
The polishing company you or your builder contracts will generally come onsite around 7 to10 days after your slab is poured and will deep grind the concrete exposing the rich colours and textures of the embedded stone. The concrete polishers will then use the cement slurry to provide a protective surface grout over the entire slab allowing for standard construction to commence.
Towards completion of the building, the polishing company will return to begin their fine polishing and will use progressively finer diamond discs and finishing sealers to produce a glowing final product. Your concrete polisher can produce varying levels of gloss finish depending on the grade of stone and sealing agent so spend time discussing the final finish with your concrete polisher.
